THE HAND OF FATMA

In Morocco, the magic beliefs were of great importance in the everyday life. The talismans and amulets allowed the expression of these beliefs, as well as the talent of the artists who worked them.

The amulet the such hand of Fatma (hamsa) was carried (and is always) by the Moslem women as by the Jewish ones, coquettery or superstition

" Divine protection " In the residence of Fatima lived his/her father, the Mohamed Prophet, Fatima, her Ali husband and his two children, Hassen and Hussein. They met under same cloth and Fatima joined them. Mohamed raised its right hand and requested. Then, the Archangel appeared and says: God wants to release you from your stain and to thus purify you, and the archangel Gabriel (Djibriel) joined them under cloth. Representation It is the raised right hand, of face. The hand transmits the power, protection, the offering, or the blessing. Symbol of the gift and the written language. The hand is one of the oldest mythological representations known in the world of Islam, always playing the protective role against the evil eye. To include/understand what is the evil eye Suivons the idea that an obscure natural law is installation in the order of the things to rebalance certain positive phenomena of nature: beauty, health, chance... and more materially, richness, happiness... and to allow a kind of negative correction. This terrible plague is concretized by the intervention of a bad person who by a gesture, a word or more precisely a malfaisant glance can have a bad action on our good being. There is a protection against this terrible plague... the khamsa or the hand of Fatma (and by extension figure 5 " khamsa ") which acts like a kind of visual rampart between the regardor and looked at. It is the symbol of providence for the Moslems, the hand is also the synthesis of the law of the Prophet Indeed, this one contains 5 fundamental dogmas or precepts corresponding to the 5 fingers. Those form 14 phalanges, and 28 for both on which the 28 letters of the alphabet are distributed: the 14 luminous ones on the right hand related to the South and the 14 obscure ones on the left hand related to north. Same manner that the fingers are subjected to the unit of the hand which is used to them as a basis, the five fundamental precepts related to Khamsa take their source in the unit of God. Holder of being able, the hand remained for the Moslems an infallible protection against the evil eye By calling upon God, said Coran, show him the interior of your hands and not outside; when you finished, master keys two hands on your face. In the Islamic countries, one places inside or outside the houses a carved or drawn hand and one direct the 5 fingers of the right hand towards the person likely to have the evil eye. The hand of Fatima is the most widespread symbol in the Islamic world; Shiites join to it the symbols of the 5 crowned characters Mohamed Ali Fatima Hassen and Hussein There existed in Babylon, a surmounted tower of a right hand devoted to Anu, Latour Zida meaning: tower of the right hand veiled a synthesis of the significance of the hand of Fatma but the origin is more complex still
